Democracy awakens

It is sweetly interesting today to remember Abraham Lincoln’s antecedent definition of democracy – a government of the people, for the people and by the people.

This definition is almost known by even the fetus in a woman’s womb as everyone has gotten themselves acquainted to it, even when they seem to have forgotten the origin.

As we all know, correcting injustice is a pre-requisite for peace and unity. As part of the process of healing and reconciliation, at Eagle Square, Abuja, H. E. President Muhammau Buhari ended his Democracy Speech by saying that he has approved the recognition of June 12 as Democracy Day and invested the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola and Babagana Kingibe with national honours, as he did with the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

He mentioned that the purpose was to partially atone for the previous damage done in annulling the Presidential elections of that year.

Today, President Buhari also proposed the re-naming of the Abuja National Stadium. Henceforth it will be called MOSHOOD ABIOLA NATIONAL STADIUM.

He conclusively made mention that in his first term, he put Nigeria back on her feet.

“We are working again despite a difficult environment in oil on which we depend too much for our exports.

“We encountered huge resistance from vested interests who do not want CHANGE, But CHANGE has come, we now must move to the NEXT LEVEL, “he said during the closely-monitored speech.

Nonetheless, the Nigerian democracy needs full awakening, but we all need to join our hands to tap it to full awakening.

This is a government that has to do with us, which we formed by ourselves for the betterment of ourselves; meaning that our attitude towards the democrats can either mar or make us. Let’s join hands with our government to standardise our Nation. If it is Nigerian Democracy, it concerns you and us! Let’s awaken her.
