The maiden edition of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) International Week in set to boost partnership and knowledge-sharing between the Nigerian academia and the rest of the world.
This is according to the vice chancellor, UNILAG, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who said that the event would help Nigeria to secure a place in the fourth industrial revolution.
The week, which is to be celebrated between Monday, October 14 and Tuesday, October 15th, 2019, has been themed: Education in a Connected World, and would be holding at the J.F. Ade Ajayi of the institution.
Ogundipe, a professor of Botany, also explained that the event would give Nigerians the platform to harness global opportunities.
He said, “The International Week is organised to advance one of the key purposes for which universities exist which is to provide thought leadership in the country.
“The fourth industrial revolution is upon us and I am not sure we are fully prepared as a country to harness its gains.
“This is why as a university we put this event together to provide a forum for cross fertilization of ideas between industry and academia, and between institutions from the global North and South as well as within the global South on the place of Nigeria in the fourth industrial revolution.”
Topics to be discussed at the event to be include: Open Borders, Open Markets: Higher Education and the Challenge of Mobility and integration in Africa; Cities of the Future, Future of Cities; and Future of Work and Education in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Foreign partners scheduled to attend the event include: Education USA, DAAD, and CampusFrance among other top universities from the UK, Europe and South Africa.
