ASUU ELECTS A NEW PRESIDENT

In an early Sunday morning vote held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Dr. Osodeke, a professor of soil science at the Federal University of Agricultural Umudike, Abia State, was elected president.

He was the immediate past vice-president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Biodun Ogunyemi of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, previously held that position.

The other union members elected alongside Mr. Osodeke include: Chris Piwuna of the University of Jos as vice president, Ade Adejumo, a professor from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, was elected as financial secretary, while Olusiji Sowande of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, as treasurer

Among those appointed to positions in the union was Adamu Babayo from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, as an internal auditor and Stella-Maris Oke from Cross Rivers State University of Science and Technology as welfare secretary. Austen Sado from the University of Port Harcourt was elected as investment secretary.

According to reports, Mr. Ogunyemi will continue to serve on the new executive committee as an ex-officio, presumably to guide the new leadership.
